Tamako, an elementary school student, is a descendant of the top disciple of Tamagusuku Chokun. She lives in Urasoe with her father, a heavy drinker. Tamako has the ability to see things that are not visible to normal people, and she also has the special ability to seal away "majimun" (phantoms).
Among the "kyozuka" (sutra mounds) in Urasoe is a stone monument for a kyozuka where it is held that long ago, a monk sealed away majimun. One day that stone monument breaks due to an earthquake and two majimun appear, stirring up trouble... With matters like this, people will fall into confusion and their hearts will become evil. Tamako sets out to demonstrate her special power and vanquish the majimun!
Urasoe City is located at the border between the southern and central parts of Okinawa, encased between Naha City to the south and Ginowan City to the north. It is the 4th most populous city in Okinawa, with 114,200 people. It is the area where the Ryukyu Dynasty originated, and for approximately 220 years starting in the 12th century, it prospered as the capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom, centered on Urasoe Castle (now the Urasoe Castle ruins).
The phrase "Uraosoi" came from the meaning "tsutsu uraura wo osou" (rule various countries); this changed into "Urashii" and then the current "Urasoe." In addition, this is one of the most active handball areas in Japan, with handball clubs at all of the public elementary and junior high schools in the city.
