Local Origination Project

The “Local Origination Project” featuring the two areas of “Community-based Movies” and “JIMOT CM COMPETITION” has been further enhanced as it marks its fourth year.
With the Okinawa International Movie Festival marking its 6th year this year, it is our desire to develop even deeper cooperation with the people of Okinawa, which serves as the venue for the festival.

Also, this year, in addition to the “Community-based Movies” and “JIMOT CM COMPETITION” we have significantly increased the number of co-productions with the people of Okinawa, and feel that we have been able to dig deep into what makes Okinawa appeal to the rest of the country, and the world.

These two projects are also linked with the “I want to live in your town” project promoted by the Yoshimoto Kogyo Group, leaders of the Okinawa International Movie festival Executive Committee, and while cooperation between regions in the creation of films and videos is one target, this also continues as a major category as part of the Okinawa International Movie Festival.

Community-based Movies

“Community-based Movies” are movies that are full of the charms of each region, as found in their information, lifestyle, legend and local area, which uniquely introduce local industries, produce and tourist information.
At the Okinawa International Movie Festival, we work in collaboration with the local people in all aspects of the movie, from planning and development and scenario building, to casting and production.
From the large number of applicants for this 6th time, we have selected to produce and screen movies with the people of the following areas:
・Kenebetsu Nakashibetsu Hokkaido
・Aizuwakamatsu Fukushima
・Fujiyoshida Yamanashi
・Amami Oshima Kagoshima
・Okinawa City Okinawa
・Naha Okinawa
・Urasoe Okinawa

Also, as a “Special Screening” as part of the “Community-based Movies”, we will be screening “The Path of Kumiodori”, which was awarded by the “Okinawa Film Competition”, a short film competition conducted by the Okinawa Film Office five years ago.

JIMOT CM COMPETITION

“JIMOT CM COMPETITION”, people living in various regions were asked to submit entries for the “CM PROJECT” based on the concept of “I love my home town, and here is something that only someone who lives here would know, and the rest of the country should know”, and this became the competition “Let’s make CM’s together around the country”.

At the 6th Okinawa International Movie festival in addition to the “Prefectures of Japan”, the stage has been expanded to the 41 municipalities in host prefecture Okinawa, and efforts have been made to further expand into Asia/ASEAN nations.
In order to bring out the special features of each region, this time the theme of “Food Culture” has been chosen, to feature local cuisine and produce. It is expected that this will make it possible to express “local culture”, as works focus on the “people” and “land” as they introduce that which they are most familiar with, their “food”. Also, all of these movies were taken using smart phones, and editing was sponsored by Dell’s Graphic Pro.
